How many Zzzzz's are you getting? May is Better Sleep Month so what better time to focus on getting better rest than now?

How many Zzzzz’s are you getting? If your answer is “not enough” or “I’m still exhausted when I wake up,” then maybe TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) help! May is Better Sleep Month so what better time to focus on getting better rest than now?

These holistic tips will help improve your sleep and have zero side effects - no sleeping pills here!

  • Tea - If your mind is restless and you can’t sleep try one one of these ingredients to make a tea: sour jujube seed, Chinese arborvitae kernel, tuber fleeceflower stem or schisandra; for insomnia due to mental fatigue, a tea made from longan aril, red dates, wolfberry or ginseng are helpful.
  • Acupuncture - If you have a more serious case of insomnia, studies have shown better sleep efficiency and lower anxiety levels in those treated with acupuncture.
  • Activity - Exercising right before bed isn’t a great idea, as it can boost your energy and make you wired. However, having a good workout session in the afternoon, wearing out your body a bit and working out some stress will help you sleep better that night.
  • Aromatherapy - Try spritzing your pillow and sheets with lavender essential oil. You can also dilute this product and apply directly to your skin. Try dabbing it on your temples, wrists, and neck, where you will be sure to pick up the scent. Lavender is known for its calming effect and can induce sleep, as well as help you stay asleep.
