All Things University City: A UC Affair to Remember

University City...more than a neighborhood. We explore what lies within the borders of the "Golden Triangle" and look into UC's residents, schools, shopping, dining, activities, issues, and more.

A UC Affair to Remember? Are you wondering what that is? Well, it's what I've been involved with the past couple months, which is also one reason why I haven't had a blog post in a while. Not an affair...but EdUCate's Taste of the Triangle!

The Taste of the Triangle event is in its 19th year and is this Friday, starting at 7 p.m.. at the UCSD Faculty Club. Tickets are $85 at the door, and $60 for UC teachers.

Attend UC's Affair to Remember and you will surely have something to talk about. First off there's a delicious menu of tasting restaurants in attendance: The French Gourmet, Herringbone, Lorna's Italian Kitchen, The Marine Room, The Palm, Seasons 52, Whisknladle, and much more. VIP donors ($250+) are able to attend a special VIP tasting of wine and food pairings at 6:00pm with Chef Bernard Guillas of The Marine Room, and Lisa Redwine, Master Sommelier.

Then there's all the auction items to bid on, both live and silent. The live auction will sure to bring about a bidding war as particpants hope to be the winning bidder on such items as: two 4-day passes to Comic-Con, summer week at Big Bear Lake, center court seats to an Aztecs basketball game, a Breckenridge vacation, and a Sail to Remember package (dinner at Roy's, sunset sail from Seaforth Boat Rentals, and a stay at the Hotel Solamar).

The Silent Auction will be just as lively, with a centerpiece of Table for Eight tasting baskets, beautiful art pieces lovingly created by UC artists, local getaway packages, theme park tickets, sports activities, pampering products, and a solar installation package.

There's so much to list, and I don't want to leave anyone out, so do yourself a favor and look at the website, which has a full listing of the auction items and the tasting menu. Plus items are being donated every day, so watch out for last minute auction items and the "mystery" baskets. (Don't tell, but one add-on is a donation from Estancia La Jolla.)

Local musicians provide the entertainment as guests sway to the sounds from the Standley Middle School String Quartet, the UCHS Jazz Ensemble, and the Classic Jazz Trio.

Proceeds from EdUCate's Taste of the Triangle benefit the five public schools in University City - Curie Elementary, Doyle Elementary, Spreckels Elementary, Standley Middle School, and Univeristy City High School. EdUCate has distributed more than $1,200,000 to the local schools to support literacy, math, science, technology and art programs.

I'll see you Friday night at the Taste—I'll be the one hovering over the silent auction baskets—I'm determined to win one of those getaways!
