Local San Diegans Lose Combined 170 Pounds and Share Success Stories at Local Event

San Diego locals were able to lose a combined 170 pounds after years of struggling. Here they share their stories - how they got there and how they keep fit - in hopes of inspiring others.

Editor's Note: The following blog post was authored by Greg and Kelly, and submitted on their behalf.

Greg:

Have you ever been frustrated with your health? You’ve tried working out more, eating less,or the latest fad diet, but nothing works. Over 10 years ago, I weighed 233 pounds and had a BMI of 32. My life was totally out of balance. I was so heavy, I couldn’t even surf—something that I love!

I hired a trainer and worked out five days a week for a year, but the scale didn’t move. I attended a local seminar and met Dr. Wayne Andersen, who explained how the support of a health coach combined with the Medifast 5 & 1 Plan and healthy habits could help me lose weight and learn to keep it off. I lost over 50 pounds and have kept it off for over 10 years. The best part is that my partner, Whitney Kell, and I are paying it forward by helping others lose weight and gain health, like Kelly Swanson.

I was at 271 pounds and had given up on ever losing the weight. Every time I went on a diet, I would lose 20 pounds in three months and gain 30 back in two months. I had resigned myself to being the nice, fat girl. What I didn’t realize at the time was how much of myself I had given up on. Over the years, I had become a hermit; I just didn’t like being the biggest person in every room.

Then, I learned about Take Shape For Life from my doctor. With the support of a health coach and the Medifast 5 & 1 Plan, I lost 115 pounds. I honestly feel better now at 52 than I did in my 20s!

Greg:

There are keys to our long-term success. Kelly and I follow the BeSlim philosophy:

Breakfast: Eat a healthy breakfast within 30 minutes of waking to get your metabolism going

Exercise: Find an activity that gets you moving and your heart pumping

Support: Find a coach, family, friend, or co-worker to support you on your weight-loss journey

Low Glycemic Meals: Have a low-glycemic meal 5-6 times per day

Individualized Plan: Find a plan that works for you and customize to fit your life

Monitor: Monitor your weight and measurements once a week

On January 17-19, Whitney and I will co-host an event with Dr. Andersen to talk about habits of health and share weight-loss success stories. For details, visit this website or contact me at (760) 230-2241 or greg@teamtsfl.com.
