OK, I get it. We’re not afraid of sportsmen using guns, target shooters, or deer hunters—who don’t want multiple bullet holes in their trophy kills, or bits of metal on their dinner plates. We are seriously worried, according to a sheriff from Montana or Mississippi—I forget which one was on CNN yesterday—about the government coming to take away our guns; about a black Democrat president and his henchmen taking away our Second Amendment rights to carry assault weapons in order to protect our homes, our loved ones, and our Constitution! Muskets, right? I missed that part of the Constitution where it mentions our right to carry 100-round clips, automatic weapons, and other tools the Army currently uses to kill our enemies in a war.
The real problem, according to another gun lobbyist on CNN Thursday is, “we need to protect ourselves.” Background checks, maybe. We can discuss that when we elect a Republican president.
So help me understand. We need to carry all sorts of modern killing tools in order to protect ourselves from our government taking over, correct? Wait a second; we elected those people. They work for us, right? So, who’s planning to take over? Who is actually coming for our guns—the police, the sheriff from Montana or wherever? Will we have enough time to rustle up a militia? Anybody have a tank in the garage?
Let’s say for one insane minute, a gang of doped-up hoodlums—kids of Democrats, probably—decides to attack you. They want to kill your children, take your millions of dollars, and burn your house to the ground. Who you gonna call? Exactly which gun you gonna grab? I mean, they are already in the house, stormed upstairs to the kids’ room, tied up your wife, and they’re aiming a 22-calibre pistol at your head. Can you make it to your assault weapon, already loaded with a 100-round magazine, in time to save your family? LOL.
You need the police, but you really don’t trust them—they want your guns. You don’t trust your government. You think your neighbors will see what’s going on and call—who, exactly? Your neighbors are all NRA members, most likely, and will come rushing to your aid, or run like hell to Cleveland!
Get a grip. Support your elected officials and local police in their efforts to reduce gun violence, and get rid of as many guns as possible. We’re damn near drowning in them: 900 Americans killed by guns in the past month so far! And stop making gun manufacturers and the NRA rich by buying whatever they are selling. They are selling fear, not safety.

Hey, sorry, I have to go now. My latest blog probably won't cause the ruckus this one has, but I try. BTW, I reply to a few comments that are polite and contribute to the discussion. But, as I have said repeatedly, I am not trying to change anyone's mind or win a debate. I am looking for friends I can learn from.
Get back to me when you've digested those . . .
I think you should put your offer of target practice out to all not just women. Why just women? Why not anyone who you think has never touched a gun? California has strong gun laws. Other states do not. Gun laws are not perfect. Yes, they should be enforced better. Yes, our mental health issues should be addressed. Yes a criminal will get a gun. But making it harder to attain assault weapons and eliminating large ammo clips or just making them available only at gun ranges would be great. Universal background checks would be great. Why is this such an issue to some? If you want to buy a gun legally why object to a background check? No, I do not know exactly what classifies an assault weapon but I do know you do not need one to hunt or protect yourself. Now if you are planning to overthrow the government you might think you need one but then maybe you should just move out of the country. Right now the NRA has a huge influence over our government because of the money they put into candidates. So do not worry no one is going to take away your guns. I am a mom not a gun expert (obviously) but the problem we have is that there seem to be these horrible shootings where innocent children are killed by assault weapons, hand guns, etc. so really look at the problem and offer up with a real solutions without the condescending bravado and swagger.
All the best.
All the guns in the World are not going to stop a modern nuclear missile attack, planted bombs, or biological and cyber attacks. These idiots on here seem to think that their firearms will stop these type of modern day attacks. Last I heard, they will not. Not to many armed government forces coming across our borders. Only illegal drugs, which it looks like many of these posters are taking daily!

Not much to understand in the offer! From the totally ignorant questions you asked I thought you never handled a gun and only saw them in magazines or the movies. I was trying to educate you, hands on, about guns. My $10 offer can also be for the men but the men have a worse attitude then you and feel they know it all. It's called being macho!!!
MILWAUKEE —There's controversy over a troubled effort to remove guns from Milwaukee streets. The program ended after high-powered weapons were stolen from investigators involved. "I'm scared to. I don't want people running around with guns," neighbor Vincent Cerar said. For Cerar, learning that law enforcement set up a bait house across the street from his Riverwest home is personal. "The corner bar, that's my grandma's bar. My sister lives down the street. My grandma lives down there. My aunt lives right over there. We live here. What if three guys walk out with guns or something, and they get stupid with them?" Cerar said. WISN 12 News has learned a task force made up of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents and Milwaukee police officers set up a front in a vacant building and posed as black market weapons dealers. The idea was to make gun buys from crooks and then lock them up. Instead, police said crooks broke into the building and an agent's car and made off with merchandise and weapons, including a high-powered machine gun. It's still on the street. "It's absolutely crazy, I think, absolutely crazy," neighbor Troy Amsden said. U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner said he will investigate what he calls the "botched Milwaukee operation." "Obviously there were some breakdowns here that were not the norm," Only lost one machine gun. Not to bad for the ATF. They should be regulated.
We've reached a heartbreaking milestone: The 1,000th wolf has died from hunting and trapping in the Northern Rockies since Congress stripped gray wolves of their Endangered Species Act protection in 2011. Mothers, pups and packs have fallen to hunters’ bullets and traps – 1,001 at last count in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. It’s a tragic, unsustainable toll, and it cannot be allowed to go on
Well written piece. I especially the tongue-in-cheek approach for this crowd. Wouldn't you love for some of these folks to produce their militia? What we're really talking about is not taking away anyone's rights, but we are talking about curtailing a hobby for some people.
However, I do think it's possible for our elected officials to dumb down education intentionally, or to control what's being taught. That is, after all, in keeping with No Child Left Behind. And it's in the government's interest to do so. Poorly educated people are much easier to control. Witness the Republican right.
You put your offer out to women. I did not see the offer go out to men except in your last statement. My questions were rhetorical but if you want to call them ignorant to insult or whatever go ahead. My feelings are not hurt nor does it cause anger. In case nobody noticed we do have a gun issue in this country but if people want to deny it then go ahead. Get angry and macho and defensive. I have noticed on these blogs (and I am guilty myself at times) that people do not really want to have a dialog about anything. They just want to tell people how much they know and very smuggly at that sometimes. There is not really an exchange of ideas or problem solving. The NRA has bought many in the government. LaPierre argue adgainst universal background checks because, well, criminials won't go in for background checks and that is ridiculous. We have a gun problem in this country. Guns kill people quickly. So all you responsible gun owners out there offer up some real solutions instead of letting us know how much you know about guns, how fast you can change a clip, how fun it is to shoot a stationary target, how guns are necessary so that the Nazi's or the liberals can't take over, how everybody should be armed and then everyone would be safer, etc.

I stand by my statement about you being ignorant.
Ofte when people do not really have anything substinative to write then they go straight to insults. I guess that is easier? Offer real solutions. Or just insults and bravado and swagger. Your choice.
I took a while to go to insults. I did not go straight there. I watched you ask the most ignorant questions for quite a few days. I watched you play Yeparoo & TVOR. Not until Patrick said something regarding your ignorance did I offer to teach you shooting basics at a range did I intervene.. My bad because I thought you could use some insight regarding gun safety and shooting. If I knew you were a HUNTRESS, as you claim, I would never of offered my services. Your limited capabilities understanding my offer leads me to believe you have limited capabilities as a shooter. How much plainer could I make the offer????? $10 for 2 hours range shooting time in Huntington Beach and I supply ammo, guns, targets and range time!!!! You do not need a high school education to understand that, do you???
I actually have lots of letters from them and the checks. Love to play them.
Why go to insults at all? Why not offer some real solutions? Or not. I never claimed to be a huntress. I stated I have hunted. I stated I have shot guns. And I stated I am a mom. My questions were basic questions and you may consider them ignorant and even consider me ignorant if that empowers you. My point is that in many states in this country there are limitations to what types of weapons you can own. Is this not the case? We have a gun problem in this country. I am not sure of how me, personally, learning to how to shoot a gun or to flip the safety on a gun will help? Can you please explain? Is this your solution? If so, okay, that is your solution. Guns kill quickly. Innocent children are killed. If you do not see this as a problem then just say so because, really, there is not need to insult.
it's 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night and I just posted some comments on this you tube video several minutes ago. By the time you get this and look for them they may be buried in all the other comments but if you can get them by time they were posted ... more Obama to Top Brass: Will you fire on American Citizens? by NextNewsNetwork http://NextNewsNetwork.com | The Obama administration is openly escalating its campaign against private gun ownership, and shaking up the top ranks of the military command structure -- but is it also preparing to make war on the American population? According to a person identified as a former senior military official, the answer to that shocking question is yes. World-renowned educator and human rights activist Jim Garrow says that the source, man regarded as "one of America's foremost military heroes," told him that President Obama is using a new litmus test for "determining who will stay and who must go" among top-ranked military leaders. That test is whether they will fire on US citizens or not. Garrow says that his source made the disclosure in order to "sound the alarm" over the administration's plans.
Very interesting points, Darreld. Please explain how eliminating back ground check loop holes to prevent criminals, felons, and "psychologically challenged" people from buying weapons at gun shows equates to Hitler's brown shirts coming to get you. (Unless, of course, you're a criminal, felon, or "psychologically challenged" person.)
