Blog: Republicans Want To Win In the Worst Way

Will Republicans dump the tea overboard, and help solve our common problems: the national debt, poverty, and unemployment?

During Obama’s first four years, Republicans said “No” to every proposal, refused to compromise, signed a pledge not to increase taxes, and did everything they legally could to make Obama a one term president. Now they cry because Obama’s second term inaugural address was not “inclusive.” How outrageous!

Republican hubris is exceeded only by their Tea Party’s stupidity.

With only a slight crack in their armor, Republicans have continued their attacks on the President, fighting any proposal to:

  • Appoint new Cabinet members
  • Reform racist, discriminating immigration laws
  • Promote equality for all people, regardless of their age, religion, sexual preference or ethnicity
  • Promote equal pay for equal work for women
  • Eliminate racism
  • Reduce gun violence
  • Uphold women’s legal right to abortion
  • Expand free public education, and reduce college costs for students
  • Provide universal healthcare, including a single-payer option
  • Raise the minimum wage

Battles Republicans want to win in the worst way:

  • Eliminate women’s right to abortion, even in the case of rape
  • Reduce minority voting by gerrymandering electoral districts
  • Reducing hours and availability of places to vote – again, to reduce minority voting
  • Put a weapon – any kind the NRA approves – in the hands of every law abiding citizen
  • Reduce the size of government – make it “small enough to drown in a bathtub,” says Grover Norquist
  • Eliminate Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid
  • Eliminate labor unions
  • Eliminate subsidies for 47% of Americans; increase subsidies for the rich
  • Lower taxes, preferably to zero, especially for people with offshore bank accounts
  • Defeat any proposal, bill, or law put forward by a Democrat

Will they ever learn? Will they ever win? Will Republican centrists try to educate Tea Party members in Congress? Will they dump the tea overboard, and help solve our common problems: the national debt, poverty, and unemployment? Will Republicans put up candidates with fiscally conservative values rather than obstructionist, separatist, fanatically religious, Southern, Tea Party values?

The populist proposals Obama talked about in his inaugural address are far more American than the obstructionist tendencies of the Tea Party. If you are against all of the President’s proposals, I hope you join the Tea Party on their cruise to oblivion. As they did in the recent election, Republicans who think they can win a national election with “Tea Party” thinking will lose next time, and the next, and the next.

Stop this ridiculous, uncivil war. Find ways we can communicate, cooperate, compromise and live with our political differences – without the hate and fear.

@ Bridget Burns;
You imply that there exists something inherently evil and greedy in anyone wanting to keep as much of their own profit as possible. You allude to corporate evilness and greed, yet what are corporations but people. Is not the basic principle of liberty one based upon property ownership? Is not your body your most fundamental building block of property? Is not your money (way of measuring labor) not your property? Do you not have a moral right to seek retention of your labor? I harbor no objections to any man wishing to spend the results of his labor upon any endeavor he wishes. I just expect the same courtesy in reverse.

Jac, you and doug would make a great pair. You could slobber over each other over your liberal, far left ideology.

10:55 am on Friday, February 8, 2013 "Are you presuming that we can question the motivation of the woman's choice?" . . Why would you not be able to question anything? There is a difference between expressing your opinion and forcing someone to follow it.

Carl says "Why would you not be able to question anything? There is a difference between expressing your opinion and forcing someone to follow it."
Carl, this is the ultimate solutions Conservatives want set in stone. They don't want anything that violates their ideology to be a choice. They want it black or white. There is no grey in their vocabulary. Thats why they can't compromise in Washington, at the State level or even locally. They are not open minded like Liberals are. I don't mean to say Liberals are perfect, but at least they are open minded. You can watch how Washington works. The only way legislation gets done is to back Conservatives into a corner before they submit to compromise. Conservatives view: Abortion- no abortion, not even for rape or incest Religion- Only Christian or Judaism which is barely tolerated. Entitlements, including Social Security and Medicare- privatize all of it Public Servants Unions- abolish and pay minimum wage, no benefits Gun Control- no change in gun laws, ban violent video games and movies Immigration reform- gather them up and bus them out. No changes Climate Control- No such thing, no regulation on energy companies. Military service- No Gays and No women in combat Contraception- Religious institutions should be separate/ contraceptions should be banned. Women's rights in work place- no equality. Conservatism= The American Taliban.

33 seconds ago "Funny posts Shane seeing that last night it was your news media that said they had Dorners body identified" . . Which news media does Shane own or work for?
Arthur Spooner February 13, 2013 at 07:29 pm
I notice when I read these posts that Carl and Martha always come back and slap others hands because they feel they are being out of line or bullying someone. Carl and Martha do their own bullying every single time they post. If you two do not see that, you are blind. Why do you think you should have a double standard??
Arthur Spooner February 13, 2013 at 07:35 pm
Carl where in that post did I say that Shane works for or owns a news media? You grasp at straws and its pathetic!
Arthur Spooner February 13, 2013 at 09:28 pm
Just heard about another company closing in San Diego. Obama the job killing president!
The Teller of Truth February 13, 2013 at 09:29 pm

The Teller of Truth February 13, 2013 at 09:32 pm
@Arthur,notice how they are also the ones running to the Patch editors after every single comment that they disapprove of too. Wonder how long the Patch will appease this behavior before catching on?
Shane February 13, 2013 at 10:40 pm
Art, do you think anything you say bullies us......meaning Progressives? You have no power....WE DO. You can talk all day but we make the rules. Nothing Conservos do can't get past us, not in this State and not in DC. We keep steamrolling your ideology. The country is totally behind us.....
Today TheTeaParty.net, a well-known conservative group, reached out to supporters to say that it is "deeply embarrassed" to have failed to raise enough money in the last several weeks to fund a nationwide series of pro-gun rallies scheduled for Feb. 23. They could only collect .$26,125.72 towards the $100,000 goal......they are now America's joke.

The House of Representatives can only obstruct America from moving forward, from establishing safer laws, better protections from all of us. The cannot produce new laws. They can only divide. Its the weapon they share. BUT.......as we have seen, their weapon of the Fiscal Cliff and the Debt Ceiling was no weapon at all because America has overcome the "be afraid, be very afraid". Republicans know...that to hold our credit hostage, they will have disastrous consequences in 2014. They CAVED.
Spoon head......I am so relaxed, so at ease with this President watching our back I don't need to be calm, we in this country need to keep up the good fight......and you can't stand it....LOL!!!! Just as you name on here is a joke, so is EVERYTHING you say and stand for. When you get serious you can come back and play with the adults.
Shane February 14, 2013 at 10:48 am
OMG.......
Conservonuts.....here is YOUR NRA leaders reasoning for why you need assault weapons, bazookas, uzi's, thompson automatic machine guns, BAR's...... 1) Latin Gangs and drug cartels are invading the US. 2) They and members of Al Qaeda are in mass crossing our Southern Border, because they surely can't cross the Canadian border with its armed checkpoints, especially the ones in Montana and Minnesota which have no more than unmanned phone booths where you stop and sign in. 3) Obama will fake mass murders and use the excuse to take your guns.I already read that Obama faked Newtown so he could make laws to take guns. 4) If Americans want gun safety that compares to Auto registration and safety it will lead to the end of America as a civilized country. 5) Thanks to the President- very soon there will be no more police in America, it will be run by Black Panthers. 6) The NRA Is Totally Not Paranoid: “Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Riots. Terrorists. Gangs. Lone criminals. These are perils we are sure to face—not just maybe. It’s not paranoia to buy a gun. It’s survival. It’s responsible behavior, and it’s time we encourage law-abiding Americans to do just that.” He used the example before Hurricane Sandy hit........there was not one gun death in NYC, during or immediately after the hurricane. The Collapse Of Civilization Is Right Around The Corner:: terrorists, crime, drug gangs, Euro-style debt riots, civil unrest or natural disaster.” NRA at its best
