Blog: Republicans Want To Win In the Worst Way

Will Republicans dump the tea overboard, and help solve our common problems: the national debt, poverty, and unemployment?

During Obama’s first four years, Republicans said “No” to every proposal, refused to compromise, signed a pledge not to increase taxes, and did everything they legally could to make Obama a one term president. Now they cry because Obama’s second term inaugural address was not “inclusive.” How outrageous!

Republican hubris is exceeded only by their Tea Party’s stupidity.

With only a slight crack in their armor, Republicans have continued their attacks on the President, fighting any proposal to:

  • Appoint new Cabinet members
  • Reform racist, discriminating immigration laws
  • Promote equality for all people, regardless of their age, religion, sexual preference or ethnicity
  • Promote equal pay for equal work for women
  • Eliminate racism
  • Reduce gun violence
  • Uphold women’s legal right to abortion
  • Expand free public education, and reduce college costs for students
  • Provide universal healthcare, including a single-payer option
  • Raise the minimum wage

Battles Republicans want to win in the worst way:

  • Eliminate women’s right to abortion, even in the case of rape
  • Reduce minority voting by gerrymandering electoral districts
  • Reducing hours and availability of places to vote – again, to reduce minority voting
  • Put a weapon – any kind the NRA approves – in the hands of every law abiding citizen
  • Reduce the size of government – make it “small enough to drown in a bathtub,” says Grover Norquist
  • Eliminate Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid
  • Eliminate labor unions
  • Eliminate subsidies for 47% of Americans; increase subsidies for the rich
  • Lower taxes, preferably to zero, especially for people with offshore bank accounts
  • Defeat any proposal, bill, or law put forward by a Democrat

Will they ever learn? Will they ever win? Will Republican centrists try to educate Tea Party members in Congress? Will they dump the tea overboard, and help solve our common problems: the national debt, poverty, and unemployment? Will Republicans put up candidates with fiscally conservative values rather than obstructionist, separatist, fanatically religious, Southern, Tea Party values?

The populist proposals Obama talked about in his inaugural address are far more American than the obstructionist tendencies of the Tea Party. If you are against all of the President’s proposals, I hope you join the Tea Party on their cruise to oblivion. As they did in the recent election, Republicans who think they can win a national election with “Tea Party” thinking will lose next time, and the next, and the next.

Stop this ridiculous, uncivil war. Find ways we can communicate, cooperate, compromise and live with our political differences – without the hate and fear.

KOMFORT 9:07am .... LOL ! Good one ! That would be the one single exception the progressives would have on abortion ... "If its gay, it stays"
Carl Petersen III February 08, 2013 at 05:15 PM
Komfort 1 minute ago "Do you have evidence that a gay gene exists?" . . Scientists have not found a gay gene, but studies have shown that it is genetically routed: http://discovermagazine.com/2007/jun/born-gay#.UQ2p2x2Yu8A

Komfort 1 minute ago "If one can be born gay would they have been a gay fetus prior to birth? If so, do you approve a woman's right to abort based on the gayness of the fetus?" . . To approve of this, one would have to start with the presumption that there is something wrong with being gay.

Are you presuming that we can question the motivation of the woman's choice?
Jac Flanders February 08, 2013 at 08:44 PM
Thanks for your comment and for reading the blog, Julian. I really hoped for a more reasoned and persuasive debate when I started this conversation. Most of these folks communicate their anger and frustration much more convincingly than they do their ideas about the country's future. Their loss in the recent election seems to have left them unhinged. Obviously not speechless.

@ Bridget Burns; You imply that there exists something inherently evil and greedy in anyone wanting to keep as much of their own profit as possible. You allude to corporate evilness and greed, yet what are corporations but people. Is not the basic principle of liberty one based upon property ownership? Is not your body your most fundamental building block of property? Is not your money (way of measuring labor) not your property? Do you not have a moral right to seek retention of your labor? I harbor no objections to any man wishing to spend the results of his labor upon any endeavor he wishes. I just expect the same courtesy in reverse.

Jac, you and doug would make a great pair. You could slobber over each other over your liberal, far left ideology.

Komfort 10:55 am on Friday, February 8, 2013 "Are you presuming that we can question the motivation of the woman's choice?" . . Why would you not be able to question anything? There is a difference between expressing your opinion and forcing someone to follow it.

Komfort 4:41 am on Saturday, February 9, 2013 You would not support legislation that would limit wholesale gay fetus abortions?
Jay Berman February 09, 2013 at 07:08 PM
Carl (whatever time) ... If the fetus is gay .. it's gotta stay !! No abortion choice of a gay fetus !!! LOL ! This thread has gone into the weeds ... I'm out ...

Funny posts Shane seeing that last night it was your news media that said they had Dorners body identified and Fox news said it wasn't true. I found that quite telling actually!

Arthur Spooner 33 seconds ago "Funny posts Shane seeing that last night it was your news media that said they had Dorners body identified" . . Which news media does Shane own or work for?
Arthur Spooner February 13, 2013 at 10:29 PM
I notice when I read these posts that Carl and Martha always come back and slap others hands because they feel they are being out of line or bullying someone. Carl and Martha do their own bullying every single time they post. If you two do not see that, you are blind. Why do you think you should have a double standard??
Arthur Spooner February 13, 2013 at 10:35 PM
Carl where in that post did I say that Shane works for or owns a news media? You grasp at straws and its pathetic!
Arthur Spooner February 14, 2013 at 12:28 AM
Just heard about another company closing in San Diego. Obama the job killing president!
The Teller of Truth February 14, 2013 at 12:29 AM
Ah ...he's just trying in vain to join the conversation.......thats all. LOL>
The Teller of Truth February 14, 2013 at 12:32 AM
@Arthur,notice how they are also the ones running to the Patch editors after every single comment that they disapprove of too. Wonder how long the Patch will appease this behavior before catching on?
Carl Petersen III February 14, 2013 at 04:57 AM
Arthur Spooner 2:34 pm on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 "Carl and Martha do their own bullying every single time they post." . . I am sorry that you are so insecure about your ideology that you consider someone posting an alternative viewpoint bullying.

Arthur Spooner 5 hours ago "Carl where in that post did I say that Shane works for or owns a news media? You grasp at straws and its pathetic!" . . I don't want to bully you, so I'll type real slow. This is your quote: . . Arthur Spooner 1:56 pm on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 "Funny posts Shane seeing that last night it was your news media that said they had Dorners body identified and Fox news said it wasn't true. I found that quite telling actually!" . . YOUR news media, implies possession (or is that too big of a word for you).

Arthur Spooner February 14, 2013 at 05:25 AM
Shane you libs are always saying that everything is congress fault and now you say they have no power. WHICH IS IT??? Congress is either in charge or they arent. You need to pick a side to blame. Good Lord! Now go calm down.
Arthur Spooner February 14, 2013 at 05:25 AM

Arthur Spooner February 14, 2013 at 05:37 AM

Arthur Spooner February 14, 2013 at 05:38 AM
I love capitalism, whats your point??
Carl Petersen III February 16, 2013 at 05:09 AM
Arthur Spooner 12:51 pm on Friday, February 15, 2013 "Libs are such big babies. Pansie libs." . . Says the person crying about being bullied because someone dares to question his ideology.
