Traditional Holiday Music Comes to La Jolla

Start a new tradition with your family by listening to holiday music sung by candlelight.

This not-so-ordinary holiday concert will have you listening to extraordinary music dating back to the 16th century in a local venue.

Bach Collegium San Diego, an ensemble inspired by music from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical eras, will perform “Hodie! Christus Natus Est” at St. James-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

The concert will be sung by candlelight and presented in a special sequence of choral music for Advent and Christmas.

"Everyone has their favorite performing arts traditions during the holiday season--the Grinch, A Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker, Messiah," said music director Ruben Valenzuela in a statement.

Listen to the holiday concert, echoing through the church walls of St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

A pre-concert discussion, 45 minutes before the show, will engage performers and audience members on topics related to the concert.

"What we are offering is something that's at once different and as old a tradition as holiday music itself--a return to the first truly grand musical observances of the Christmas holy days, sung by candlelight," said Valenzuela in a statement.

Tickets are $20 for students or seniors and $25 or $40 for general admission. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit bachcollegiumsd.org.
