Spaces Available for Week 2 Summer Classes - June 24 - 28!

The Gillispie School is located in the village of La Jolla and offers a summer session with a wide range of creative and educational classes for students from all elementary schools.

Fencing with Team Touche!

9 a.m. - 12 p.m., Grades 2-6, $225

EN GUARDE? READY? FENCE! Team Touché helps refine free swinging students into deft deflectors and Z -carving virtuosos (with foam swords) while providing a fun and engaging fitness activity. Discover the basics of swordsmanship and learn French and Italian terminology embedded in this classical sport. Wow parents and friends on the last day during our Olympic -style fencing tournament. All participants receive awards after the tournament. Tedd Padgitt is Head Coach of Team Touché and is the 2005 West Coast Champion.

PreEngineering with Play-Well

9 a.m. - 12 p.m., Grades K-1, $225

Let your imagination run wild with over 100,000 pieces of LEGO®! Girls and boys will build confidence as they create engineer-designed projects such as boats, bridges, mazes, and motorized vehicles. Explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced PlayWell instructors.

Engineering Fundamentals with Play-Well

9 a.m. - 12 p.m., Grades 2-5, $225

Power up your engineering skills with PlayWell TEKnologies and over 100,000 pieces of LEGO®! Girls and boys can apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as arch bridges, motorized gondolas, and the Battletrack! Challenging for new and returning students.

Volleyball with Coach Kinkead

12:30 - 3:30 p.m., Grades 3-6, $225

Boys and girls, it’s time to step up to the net! All ability levels are invited to join this fun and rewarding class. Practice passing, serving, jumping, digging, and spiking. Informal games to reinforce skills and develop effective strategies will also be part of this volleyball class.

Add-On Afternoon Swimming!

Offered All 8 Weeks 

Kindergarten through Grade 6

A fee-based afternoon session offers swimming at the Coggan Aquatic Center. The Center’s swim instructors teach group lessons, and campers will be placed in appropriate swim-level groups and learn skills that will improve their swimming ability. After the lessons, the campers will have free swim time under the supervision of a certified lifeguard and the Gillispie teachers. The Center is conveniently located at La Jolla High School; the students and their Gillispie teachers walk the not-quite-three blocks each way to/from swimming.

Early Childhood (EC) Day Camp

For Children Ages 3-5

New addition to the EC Camp! Every Wednesday, visiting instructors from Mad Science will conduct an exciting, hands-on science program for EC children to spark their curiosity and build their enthusiasm for science. Program topics will include: magnetic attraction, world of worms, energy and motion, and much more!

Our early childhood teachers are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, intellectual, and social development of the young child. The teaching staff includes several Gillispie faculty members who have a wealth of teaching experience, along with other experienced professionals. Children will enjoy an array of activities during camp, including indoor and outdoor games, water play, crafts, and dramatic play. EC day camp runs Monday through Friday, for one or two weeks.
