Gillispie Students Honor Military and Armed Services YMCA

The Gillispie School's Serve. Lead. Succeed Team hosted a week full of events to honor the men and women of our military and benefit the Armed Services YMCA of San Diego.

The Gillispie School’s Serve. Lead. Succeed. team hosted a week full of events to honor the men and women of our military and benefit the Armed Services YMCA of San Diego. Gillispie students in Grades K-6 had the opportunity to participate in various activities this week during lunch recesses.

Monday, May 20,
was American Handprint Day. Students decorated their hands with red, white, and blue paint and stamp them on a piece of paper to create a patriotic display.

Tuesday, May 21
, 4th-6th grade students had the opportunity to submit a special thank you note or message to our troops.

Wednesday, May 22,
was Red, White, and Blue Day. The children were encouraged to come to school dressed in red, white, and blue attire.

Thursday, May 23, was Bead Bracelet Day. Students designed special patriotic bracelet that can be worn to honor our troops.

Friday, May 24,
was the final event, where students will be challenged to participate in a Military Fitness Challenge.

Suggested donations from Gillispie families of $5.00 to participate in the week full of events will go directly to support the amazing programs that the Armed Services YMCA provides for our military and their families. Gillispie’s Summer Edition of its Serve. Lead. Succeed. Program is open to students from all elementary schools.
