Wise Talk: Weapons Legislation

Recent weapons legislation enactment failure.

I must not understand the situation. I don't see how expanding and enforcing the weapons registrations laws and background checks to buy those weapons threaten anyone.

I understand the "camel's nose" theory, but there is no talk of taking away anyone's weapon. The attempts at passing new legislation merely attempt to prevent felons or others who have criminal records, or are mentally incapable of making proper decisions about the use of those weapons, from acquiring them.

Besides, who are we so afraid of that we need automatic rifles in the first place. One can't hunt game with them, so they can only be used for target practice or to use against an opposing force. But the military and the police forces in this country are all composed of us...average citizens, so who are we so afraid of?

Congress should be ashamed of not passing the recent weapons legislation. There is absolutely no excuse for what they did. The only excuse I can think of is they are so obligated to the NRA for funds and votes that they won't vote against their interests.

If there is such a thing as a "National Shame", this is it.
