Wise Talk: The San Diego Car Collection Offers True Delight

Whether you like candy colored drop-tops, hotrods or the latest in luxury rides, this showroom has something that's sure to strike your fancy.

The other day I had the good fortune to have lunch with Chuck Swimmer, founder of Charco Construction and a well known collector of rare and exotic vehicles.  During lunch we began talking about his car collection and his car museum, the San Diego Collection.

If you haven't been there you should make a point of going. It is located at 7215 El Cajon Blvd., and is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with no appointment necessary.

Chuck likes buying and selling his cars so the ones on display constantly change. Thus, it is well worth going back on occasion to see what he currently shows. His manager, a delightful woman named Rudy, will be there to greet you.

Among the cars he is showing at the moment are: a 1956 Buick wagon; a 1955 Lincoln Capri coupe; a 1961 Caddy convertible; a 1961 Kirkham Cobra; a 1931 Chrysler Imperial, which won Best of Show at the Amelia Island car show; a 1928 and a 1929 Rolls Royce; an 2003 Aston Martin; and a Tesla. You view some of that collection in the photo gallery included in this blog post.

When you go, they'll offer you coffee, water, soda and popcorn—all free. They also offer detailing to the public and will host parties for various occasions.
