A few years ago a Rabbi told a parable during High Holy days. It went like this:
A man stood in a field and asked; "God, give me a sign that shows you exist" and a rainbow appeared...but the man didn't see it.
He then repeated what he'd said, and a butterfly landed on his wrist, but the man didn't feel it.
Again the man asked God for a sign showing he exists...and a baby cried, but the man didn't hear it.
The moral is to not pass up a blessing because it's not packaged the way one expects.
To me that parable meant we should be grateful for every breath we take and take joy in our existence. Furthermore, we should concentrate on doing good and positive things; even if it's just as simple as smiling at someone.
So, my friends, have a wonderful, prosperous, healthy, and positive 2013.
