Your Legs, Your Life: The Importance of a Healthy Lower Half

The legs are the wheels of the human body. They’re the primary vehicles for mobility, and a driving force behind a healthy, active way of life. Functional legs are critical in maintaining a vibrant lifestyle, as well as preventing injury and disability, particularly among older individuals. Matthew Allison, MD, MPH, will be delivering a lecture on the importance of sustaining healthy legs at the UCSD Stein Institute for Research on Aging. His lecture will be covering various diseases that impede on leg function, and potential treatment options to combat such diseases.

Dr. Allison is currently a professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at UC San Diego and the director of the Non-invasive Vascular Laboratory at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. His research and clinical practice focus on the prevention of cardiovascular disease by examining risk factors for lower extremity peripheral arterial disease and chronic venous disease. Dr. Allison is a fellow of the American Heart Association and a diplomat of the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
