The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society hosts 15th Annual Light The Night® Walk

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer, will host its 15th Annual Light The Night® Walk on Friday, November 8 at Petco Park.

The Light The Night® Walk is an inspirational two-mile course that brings together thousands of individuals to raise funds for lifesaving blood cancer research and critical patient and family services.

“The Walk is our opportunity to fundraise for those battling leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and help them live better, longer lives. It’s a night for us to pay tribute and commemorate lives touched by cancer,” said Joanna Winsborough, Senior Campaign Manager for the Light The Night Walk in San Diego. “It’s such an inspiring event and we hope the community will get involved and join us as we aim to beat last year’s goal.”

Each year, in communities all across the United States and Canada, teams of families, friends, co-workers and local and national corporations come together to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS's) Light The Night® Walk events and bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers. Millions of consumers also assist by making donations at retail outlets.   Light The Night Walk events are evenings filled with inspiration. Participants carry illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Thousands of walkers form a community of caring, bringing light to the dark world of cancer.

“In 2012, we raised $610,000 and this year we’re looking to bring in $750,000. It’s a lofty goal, but we know we can do it. In addition, last year we had nearly 3,500 walkers and we’re also looking to attract more people at this year’s event. It’s not too late to join a team and participate in this memorable event,” said Winsborough.

Check-in starts at 4:30 p.m. with the opening ceremony beginning at 6:00 p.m. and the Walk starting at 7:00 p.m. For more information on this year’s event, visit www.lightthenight.org/sd/
