Recent Successful Exits: ecoATM

Hear firsthand the exciting story of San Diego mobile device recycling firm ecoATM, which last year linked a deal to be acquired by Outerwall (formerly Coinstar) for an eye-popping $350 million in cash. ecoATM is a success story for the San Diego technology and venture community that provided early capital and top-notch management to a company that was one of the first successes of CommNexus' startup incubator.

ecoATM started with a simple, yet timely, idea of recycling used cellphones. Its amazing path to success included well thought-out market analysis and strategy development, bringing-in exceptional management talent from the outside, timely equity capital injections totaling over $30 million, careful use of venture debt, deciding to partner early on with the industry's largest player, and ultimately creating a huge exit for shareholders.

Please join us as we hear the story of one of the San Diego venture and technology industries' biggest success stories in recent years.

SPEAKER

Tom Tullie has 23 years of experience in the high tech sector. He became Chairman and CEO of ecoATM in conjunction with TAO Ventures' investment in 2009. Tom led the company through years of technology and product improvement and treacherous financing and strategic waters, to arrive at the point where today there are close to 650 ecoATMs in 41 states. But ecoATM is not his first successful exit. TOm previously led two other tech company startups through aggressive growth phases and to successful strategic exits. Tom previously served for 9 years at Applied Micro Circuits (AMCC), including as the company's COO, where he led or was heavily involved in 13 acquisitions, AMCC's successful IPO and subsequent $1 billion secondary offering.
