GYPSY, A Musical Fable: Presented by the Muir Musical Ensemble

Gypsy: A Musical Fable
is a big, brawling, boisterous musical based in the 1930s that follows the
dreams and aspirations of Gypsy Rose Lee, a burlesque performer. Known as one
of the most infamous stage mothers, Rose drives her daughters into show
business, revealing the hardships and pressures of life as a performer. Loosely
based on a 1957 memoir by Arthur Laurents, Gypsy features music by Jule Styne
and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

Produced by the Muir Musical Ensemble—a musical theater
organization at UC San Diego—more than 80 undergraduate students collaborate on
all aspects of design, direction and acting. Students from all majors are invited
to join, regardless of their theater experience, from all six colleges. Held
every spring for more than 20 years, the musical provides students a chance to
develop skills in leadership, public speaking and project management.

Three performances will be held—April 10, 11 and 12th—at
8 p.m. at the Mandeville Auditorium on the UC San Diego campus from April 10-12.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the UC San Diego box office at: https://ucsdboxoffice.com/Online/default.asp. For more information contact: muir.musical@gmail.com.
