Congregation Beth Israel Men's Club Forum:Development on the Korean Peninsula: From Bad to Worse With Dr. Stephan Haggard

Dr. Haggard is the director of the Korea-Pacific Program at the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at UCSD, where he specializes in the Korean economy.He holds an endowed chair: The Larry and Sallye Krause Chair of Korea-Pacific studies and is also Director of the Korea-Pacific program. He received his Ph.D, M.A and B.A in Political Science at UC Berkeley. In addition to his work on Korea, Dr. Haggard is an expert on the Latin American economy and has extensively studied financial crisis both in Latin America and East Asia. He earlier served as director of the University of California's system-wide Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) based at UCSD.

Dr. Haggard has written many books, including Witness to Transformation: Refugee Insights into North Korea and Famine in North Korea: markets, Aid, and Reform, both co-authored with Marcus Noland. Additionally, Dr Haggard writes the North Korea: Witness to Transformation blog at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, is on the editorial board of International Studies Quarterly and Korean Journal of Policy Studies, and is co-editor of the Journal of the Korean Economy. He is also an editor at the Journal of East Asian Studies and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
