A ruptured water main closed a stretch of La Jolla Scenic Drive South today.
A utility crew digging alongside the street accidentally broke the 8-inch-diameter line near Soledad Mountain Road shortly before noon, according the San Diego Water Department.
Police diverted traffic away from the area as utility crews worked to halt the overflow, which took about 90 minutes, SDWD spokesman Arian Collins said.
The mishap caused no structural flooding and left no homes or businesses without water service.
Repairs to the pipeline and roadway were expected to take until at least 9 p.m., Collins said.
