This Smell Is For the Birds; City to Treat Bird Poop Near Cove

Crews will start the cleanup efforts to neutralize the bird poop smell near the La Jolla Cove Tuesday.

The horrible stench near the La Jolla Cove may soon be a thing of the past. The city will start the cleanup efforts to neutralize the bird poop smell accumulated in and around the cliffs on the 1200 block of Coast Boulevard on Tuesday, May 28.

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner and City Councilmember Sherri Lightner are scheduled to highlight the area to be tested and treated at 11:30 a.m.

The Mayor's office said a private company began assessing the hazardous conditions caused by accumulated bird guano and its overwhelming stench over Memorial Day weekend.

Filner has said the accumulating cormorant, pigeon, gull, pelican and other animal waste to be a public health hazard.
