Surfers Facing Big Waves; High-Surf Advisory in Effect

Meteorologists expect high surf at south-facing beaches through Saturday.

A long-period south swell will peak Thursday into Friday, causing large surf at San Diego County's south-facing beaches, meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory effective until 11 a.m. Saturday, saying six to 10-foot waves, with local sets of up to 12 feet, are likely.

The agency advised beachgoers to beware of strong rip currents and waves that may top jetties at times.

The long-period south swell will fade through Saturday, cording to the NWS.
