Son of Price Club Founder to Speak and Sign Books in La Jolla

Robert E. Price, son of Sol Price, will speak and sign copies of his new book in La Jolla on Monday.

Robert E. Price, son of Price Club founder Sol Price, will sign copies of his new book Sol Price: Retail Revolutionary and Social Innovator at UC San Diego on Monday. The event is free and open to the public.

Robert E. Price, a businessman and philanthropist, will share stories about the success, personal life and lessons he has learned from his father. Sol Price, who lived in La Jolla, founded Price Club that later merged with Costco. The first Price Club opened in 1976 on Morena Boulevard in San Diego. 

The younger Price is president of the Price Family Charitable Fund and Price Charities, as well as chairman of the board of PriceSmart, Inc.

The Price family has a long history of providing philanthropic support to UC San Diego, according to the university. Sol Price donated to many areas of campus. He made contributions to the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, undergraduate scholarships and help build Price Center West.

“We are honored to host this talk and book signing with Robert E. Price on our campus,” said UCSD Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla in an announcement. “Robert and his family have had a tremendously positive impact on UC San Diego and our region. Through their generosity and contributions, they have improved the lives of thousands of people and, for that, we are extremely grateful.”

The talk and book signing is at 4 p.m., Monday at UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management’s J.R. Beyster Auditorium. Books will be available for purchase at the signing event.
