La Jolla Country Day's Edman Named All-Academic Team Captain

La Jolla Country Day School's Tommy Edman, a senior shortstop on the baseball team, has been named the captain of the high school baseball All-Academic Team by U-T San Diego.

With a 4.48 GPA, Edman is on his way to Stanford University.

“Stanford was my dream school,” Edman told the newspaper. “I had to work hard to make it happen. The academic side is so good there. And the baseball is top notch. Plus, I get a chance to stay on the West Coast and play in the Pac-12.”

LJCD's Class of 2013 with 122 seniors, including Edman, celebrated graduation on Friday. In September, Edman was one of four LJCD students to be named a National Merit Semifinalist based on his PSAT scores and academic record. In April, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced that he had been chosen as one of 1,000 students to receive a $2,500 scholarship to help with his plans to study mathematics.
