Escape for Some Mommy Time

Calling all moms: welcome to Patch's newest lifestyle column. Every Wednesday, it's all about you. We're introducing ways to enjoy The Great Escape, the couple of precious hours every week where you indulge in yourself.

Remember those days of single girl life: expensive hairdos, shopping all day, and a cosmopolitan here and there? We’re giving you an excuse to get back to that.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much-deserved break and make your life a little easier—maybe a whole lot easier. Your weekly escape from mom-dom doesn’t need to be day-long spa trip; maybe you can sneak out for an hour of deep breathing at the Self-Realization Fellowship gardens near Swami’s Beach or slip into a movie theater to finally watch one of those Oscar nominees.

This week’s pick for Great Escape is not only a theatrical treat but also a way to help end violence against women and girls. Leave the kids with your parents, your hubby or the babysitter and head to the Diversionary Theatre in North Park to see the Vagina Monologues, a play by Eve Ensler. The play, a series of monologues about you guessed it, will be performed Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. The monologues cover it all—from sex and love to childbirth, rape and menopause.
