Day Trip: Fall on Over to Bates Nut Farm for Giant Pumpkins [Photo Gallery]

The Bates Nut Farm pumpkin patch opened Sept. 27 but if you want a giant pumpkin (or a picture by one) this is the weekend to go.

Pumpkin patches, a corn maze, hay rides, a general store, and petting zoo await you this time of year at Bates Nut Farm located at 15954 Woods Valley Rd. in Valley Center about 50 minutes north from Del Mar, Carmel Valley and the La Jolla area.

You'll find some of the biggest pumpkins in all of San Diego county. If you want to take home a giant pumpkin, come before Sunday Sept. 29. "The big pumpkins go fast," an employee told Patch.

They also make great photo-ops. Some of these pumpkins are bigger than your little pumpkins at home.
