Comedian Lewis Black, Actor Robert Buckley to Keynote UCSD Graduations

Lipstick Jungle actor Robert Buckley, The Daily Show comedian Lewis Black and San Diego City Councilwoman Sherri Lightner will keynote a series of graduation ceremonies for more than 8,000 UC San Diego students this weekend.

Buckley, a UC San Diego alumnus, will be the featured speaker at the university's All Campus Graduation Celebration at 5 p.m. Friday at RIMAC Field. The event is open to graduating undergraduate and graduate students, plus alumni, and will include dinner and a fireworks show.

Black, a stand-up comic and long-running guest commentator on The Daily Show, will give his first-ever commencement address for Thurgood Marshall College at 8 a.m. Saturday at RIMAC Field. About 1,200 graduates and 11,000 guests are expected to attend.

Lightner, the District 1 councilwoman who represents La Jolla, will be the keynote speaker for the Office of Graduate Studies' 10:30 a.m. Saturday ceremony at RIMAC Arena. About 2,500 guests are expected to watch 500 students receive their Ph.Ds and 1,125 students receive their master's degrees. The councilwoman, like Buckley, is a UC San Diego graduate, earning bachelor's degrees in mathematics and sociology, and a master's degree in applied mechanics and engineering sciences, according to a university announcement.
