Baby Seal Wanders Into House to Nap on Couch

A baby seal left the beach and curled up on the couch of a Bay of Plenty house in New Zealand on Sunday.

With the pupping season officially commencing on Thursday, we wanted to bring you a cute story of an ambitious baby seal.

New Zealander Annette Swoffer had quite a surprise Sunday night. She heard noise coming from her kitchen and went down to find not a robber that had broken into her Bay of Plenty home, but a baby New Zealand fur seal.

“I was in my office and I heard an awful racket down below... I thought the cats have brought a rabbit or something in so I went down and had a look - and there's a seal in my kitchen,” she told the New Zealand Herald.

According to the New Zealand paper, Swoffer found a young seal pup hanging out in her kitchen with her cats. The baby seal had exited the water, traveled through a residential area, crossed a street, wiggled under a gate, through a cat door, and up some stairs before he was found by a shocked Swoffer.

“I'm looking and I'm definitely seeing flippers and not paws,” she added.

The best part is that the seal then made itself comfy on her couch in the living room.

The Department of Conservation recovered the pup and and release him back into the water, but before a few photos were snapped.
