Maybe you forgot that important presentation from work on your PC, or forgot to send your sons graduation photos to your parents from your Mac; no need to worry because thanks to a wide range of VNC (Virtual Network Computing) clients you can now have complete control of your PC or Mac straight from your iPad or iPhone on the go!
Here are some of our favorites for either little or NO COST!
CloudOn (FREE!)
If all you need is access to traditional, full-blown Microsoft Office–as opposed to the file compatibility–then a new app called CloudOn gives you just that. The applications themselves run on the CloudOn servers, and although they look a little harsh when compared to the smooth characters and buttons on a native iOS app, they can’t be beaten for rock-solid compatibility. You need to have a Dropbox account for file storage, but this is all the better in our opinion as it means your synchronized documents will immediately appear on your regular computer so you can continue working on them when you get back to the office.
OnLive Desktop (FREE!)
You can also check out OnLive Desktop, which lets you access a Windows 7 PC complete with the Microsoft Office applications and 2GB of free storage.
LogMeIn Ingition ($129.99)
LogMeIn’s Ignition lets you control a remote Mac or PC courtesy of a free app installed on the client machine. It presents a copy of the remote desktop on your iPad or iPhone, which despite the device’s lower physical resolution, remains surprisingly usable on the portable device. It can wake a sleeping computer, so you don’t need to keep your desktop machine active to use it, and can control an unlimited number of machines, so you can access your home computer or your office machine.
Splashtop Remote Desktop ($19.99)
Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPad performs a similar function, locking on to a free client app–Splashtop Streamer–running on your Mac or PC across the Internet or a local network. its fast and responsive, with plenty of useful gestures through which you can implement mouse clicks, right clicks, scrolls, and so on.

Another great new free app is called Levion. This one allows the user to remotely access an enabled Quickbooks program from any Internet-connected device. Virtually all Quickbooks features can be accessed from a remote PC, or smart phone. You can add customers, send invoices, write check, pay bills, etc. and all changes are automatically synced with the Quickbooks files on your home computer. Bob V
Thank you so much for that additional information, great new apps are constantly coming out so its important to spread the word so we can make the most out of technology, after all its supposed to make our lives easier and not complicate it right? Danielle R.
