After being closed Monday, the San Diego County Fair on Tuesday was packed solid amid the pervasive smell of fried bacon—even reaching the parking lot. Fairgoers took advantage of Taste of the Fair discounts and cool breezes. Hundreds of people twisted along with Chubby Checker at the Del Mar Arena in a Guinness world record attempt. Music was ever-present alongside many kids out of school—greeted by a tall blue Transformer named Rock-It. Contests included watermelon-seed spitting, corn-husking and pie-eating and a three-legged race.  Game On was the theme, and the Don Diego statue at the entrance hand him outfitted as Mario of the video game.
