Judy Churchill, Ph.D., has been named chairman of the Scripps Health board of trustees. Dr. Churchill, a retired Scripps clinical psychologist, has served on the Scripps board since 2008.
“Dr. Churchill’s extensive tenure with Scripps, her proven leadership, and her deep knowledge of the community will be a great asset as Scripps moves forward during this challenging and exciting time in health care,” said Chris Van Gorder, president and CEO of Scripps.
Prior to her service on the Scripps board, Dr. Churchill dedicated 20 years of service as a psychologist at Scripps. She designed and implemented Scripps Mercy Hospital’s employee assistance program, which has since been expanded across the entire Scripps system. She has published numerous journal articles on employee assistance programs and is recognized as a national leader in the field of employee assistance.
In addition to her six years of service on the Scripps board, Dr. Churchill also served for seven years on the Mercy Foundation board of directors, including two years as chair. She has volunteered with the Mercy Surgical Outreach Team by flying medical supplies into Mexico, where she provided hands-on assistance in the surgical recovery area. In addition, Dr. Churchill serves on the board of Green Manor, a senior housing facility in Mission Hills.
Dr. Churchill and her husband live in the Mission Bay community of San Diego. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from California Western University. At United States International University, she earned master’s degrees in education and psychology, and a doctorate degree in clinical psychology.
