UCSD Hospital Named to '100 Hospitals with Great Women's Health Programs' List

UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest was one of two hospitals in San Diego County to make the annual list.

Two hospitals in San Diego County were among Becker's Hospital Review's picks for "100 Hospitals with Great Women's Health Programs," it was announced Wednesday.

UC San Diego Medical Center and Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas were cited for clinical excellence, quality care and women's health awards, and programs such as gynecology, obstetrics and reproductive medicine.

"We are honored to be listed with our nation's very best for the innovative care and advanced treatment options we offer in obstetrics and gynecology," said Dr. Thomas Moore of UCSD's Department of Reproductive Medicine. "As the only academic hospital in San Diego, our patients have access to a wide range of experts ranging from gestational diabetes and high- risk pregnancies to pelvic floor disorders and menopause."

Officials with UC San Diego Medical Center said their hospital was recognized for offering the most birth options to San Diego families, for being designated as a Baby-Friendly facility by Baby-Friendly USA and for the number of gynecological services offered. UC San Diego Health System's fetal surgery program is also nationally recognized.

The 158-bed Scripps Memorial Hospital, which was also designated a Baby- Friendly facility by Baby-Friendly USA, was recognized for having a women's health program that offers various treatments, including hormone therapy for menopause and treatment for osteoporosis. Its Leichtag Family Birth Pavilion also features a neonatal intensive care nursery.
