Straightforward Food, No Hassle, Low Prices

Cap'n Keno's serves up no-muss, no-fuss fare to locals at a price that can't be beat.

Let’s be honest. If you’re looking for a ritzy meal with all the bells and whistles, then Cap'n Keno’s is not your spot. However, if your aim is to carelessly roll in for sustenance somewhere off the 101 that has few menu items a 5-year-old wouldn’t consider, then make this Encinitas joint your destination.

Bottom line: You know what you’re getting here. With breakfast served all day and a lunch and dinner menu to boot, you’ll pick from an uncomplicated crop of dishes such as meat and egg combos and French toast for breakfast, and a tuna sandwich, spaghetti plate with garlic bread, the Keno Burger and a 21-piece shrimp basket for lunch and dinner.

Dishes come packed with sides, especially for lunch and dinner, with standard options such as salad or soup, fries or baked potato. As for prices, you’ll see some of the specials run low as $2.99, with the most expensive item on the menu—a New York Steak Dinner—topping off at $11.99.

While the interior is suggestive of early 1970s construction, it’s all part of the overall divey appeal. There is, undeniably, nothing pretentious about Keno’s.

So, drop in, place your order at the counter and enjoy a feast reminiscent of a simpler time—one kinder to your bank account. Just remember to bring cash; those brandishing plastic are sent over to Keno’s bar for a cash advance of sorts.
