Shop Unique Boutiques

There are lots of chain stores for shopping, but these places bring out individual stylish trends.

When it’s time for the urge to go shopping, we tend to focus on the major retailers and clothing chains. But San Diego’s coastal towns are home to many unique boutiques to satisfy many differing individual styles. From the essential California beach lifestyle to the rocker mom, you can find someplace to spend your hard earned clothing budget.

  • : The rockabilly chick in you will love this place. Bella Moda carries Ed Hardy, Hudson Jeans, True Religion and many other designers that inspire a hip classic rocker girl look. You’ll love the selection of jeans, sweaters, tops and accessories, including shoes and vintage inspired jewelry. They also carry some unique designed swimwear. Plus, don’t miss the section of evening dresses, just right for a rocking night out on the town. Bella Moda, 967 S. Coast Highway 101 (near the Lumberyard), Encinitas, 760-479-9879.
  • : Encinitas is home to a number of resale clothing stores, but Sheri’s will surely catch your eye. Located in a little cottage, Sheri’s is physically filled to the rafters with second-hand clothing selections. You’ll find jeans, pants, shirts, sweaters, jackets, and dresses. Accessorize with a number of belts, hats, scarves, shoes, jewelry and purses. The uniqueness of the boutique is from the shear number of differing styles of clothes that are consigned to Sheri’s. Your clothing budget will go a long way here. Sheri’s Designer Resale, 920 S. Coast Highway 101, Encinitas, 760-943-1556.
  • : The beachy Carlsbad boutique is just steps away from the sand and you can find everything you need there to live out the SoCal life. Find sunglasses, swimwear, casual men’s, women’s and children’s beachwear, hats, jewelry and flip flops. California Wear even carries souvenir beach and surf themed items to send to jealous friends and relatives who live in colder climates. While there, grab some yogurt next door, walk to the sand, sit on the beach towel you bought at California Wear, and watch the sunset while listening to the ocean waves. What a California life. California Wear, 3001 Carlsbad Blvd., Suite E, Carlsbad, 760-729-5650.
  • Pink Zone: Starting in Pacific Beach, the Pink Zone has expanded to seven local locations, but each store is created with their own unique atmosphere. No matter what store you visit, you’ll find casual, inexpensive clothing and accessories. They carry a great selection of jeans, casual tops and dresses. The Pink Zone also sells beachwear; so you can fill up your wardrobe with daytime sun-exposed attire all the way to casual cool evening wear. Pink Zone, 2525 El Camino Real #210, Carlsbad, 760-730-9907; and , La Jolla, 858-456-2508.
  • Angl: When I go to the Westfield UTC mall, I always try to stop by Angl. Located on the lower level, across from Boudin Bakery; Angl offers trendy fashions at very reasonable prices. Styles range from casual to dressy, and all fashionable. Their clothes make you feel feminine and comfortable at the same time. Your wardrobe here will take you from the office to a dinner date quite easily. Angl stores are opening up at various locations in Southern California, but they still have that unique boutique feel. Angl, 4415 La Jolla Village Dr., San Diego, 858-657-0522.
  • : Walk inside and feel like you’ve entered your own home’s large walk-in closet. Mazi makes you feel welcome as she shows you around her boutique filled with one-of-a-kind items, with many pieces made locally. The store is stocked with dresses, tops, sweaters, jeans, and pants. There’s also a wonderful selection of lacy items, jewelry, belts and other accessories. Mazi’s is now selling men’s clothing too, so bring the men in your life. And make sure to visit the back room where the eveningwear is housed and the quirky dressing rooms are a delight for viewing outfit changes. Mazi Boutique, 8008 Girard Ave., La Jolla, 858-454-0151.
