San Diego City Council Honors Ruben Barrales

Former San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders will replace Ruben Barrales as the CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Outgoing San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce CEO Ruben Barrales, who is credited with restoring financial stability to the business-support group during his six-year tenure, was honored today by the City Council.

“He reinvigorated that organization by growing its membership, providing financial stability and sustainability, and focusing on important cross-border issues, and increasing advocacy efforts with Washington, D.C.,” Councilman Tony Young said.

Councilman David Alvarez said Barrales, a former White House official, excelled at arranging meetings for him and other elected officials with “the right people” in the nation's capital.

Barrales, whose term at the chamber officially ends at the end of the year, thanked the council members and his staff in brief remarks at the podium. He will be replaced by ex-Mayor Jerry Sanders when he returns from a three- month vacation to Italy next spring.
