Sally Ride Science Hires New CEO

Sheryle Bolton, a former Scientific Learning Corp. executive, will lead Sall Ride Science, a education company founded by astronaut Sally Ride.

Sally Ride Science, a UTC-based education company working to increase interest in science and science careers, announced the hiring of a new CEO today to replace its founder, deceased astronaut Sally Ride.

Sheryle Bolton previously was the CEO of Scientific Learning Corp., an educational technology company that develops reading programs based on neuroscience research.

Bolton also was an executive at HBO and Rockefeller & Co., and an investment banker at Merrill Lynch.

Ride, the first American woman in space, founded the firm in 2001 and ran it until her death last month. The company creates programs and materials for science, technology, engineering and math ­– known collectively as STEM – education.

“Sally Ride Science is at the forefront of the STEM education movement,” Bolton said. “I am excited for the opportunity to further Dr. Ride's legacy of inspiration and leadership while also developing new opportunities for growth and innovation.”

Bolton is a graduate of the University of Georgia and holds a masters in business administration from Harvard.
