Photos: Scripps Research Celebrates 50 Years

Scripps Research Institute hosted a gala last month to celebrate 50 years of research.

Scripps Research Institute hosted a celebration of 50 years of research on Nov. 5. Net proceeds of the occasion benefited the Scripps Research Kellogg School of Science and Technology.

A total of 300 guests attended the gala, including six Nobel laureates. The program honored the past, celebrated the present and looked towards the future.

Scripps Research Institute’s president-elect Michael Marletta was master of ceremonies for the event. Also speaking were Professor Emeritus Charles Cochrane; Professor Phil Baran, an alumnus of the Kellogg School; Michael Brown, Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and member of the Scripps Research Institute Board of Scientific Governors; Richard Gephartdt, chair of the Scripps Research Institute Board of Trustees; and Richard Lerner, president.

Lerner was paid a special tribute for his visionary leadership over the past 25 years.
