Petco Is Moving It's Headquarters

Abound 650 employees will work in the new headquarters—many of whom work in Miramar or Scripps Ranch.

Petco announced today that it will move its corporate headquarters to Rancho Bernardo, where it will consolidate employees working in several offices around San Diego.

The pet supply retailer said it would begin renovating property at 10850 Via Frontera this fall and will have 300,000 square feet of space when the building is completed about a year later.

"We now have a tremendous opportunity to intentionally design a central campus that reflects our values and showcases what we can achieve with the 'Power of Together'," said Petco CEO Jim Myers. "San Diego has been our home for decades -- this community has helped us grow and this new facility gives us the opportunity for continued growth in our hometown."

About 650 employees will work in the new headquarters -- many of whom work in Miramar or Scripps Ranch.

Petco, which has a support center in San Antonio, said the San Diego headquarters would  be people- and pet-friendly. Petco has about 1,300 stores in the United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico, including specialty Unleashed by Petco stores and nine Pooch Hotels.

"Petco is a great community partner and corporate citizen," said Councilman Mark Kersey, who represents the area. "Their decision to grow their company in San Diego and into Rancho Bernardo speaks to the collaboration of local efforts being made to let companies know that our city is open for business."

U-T San Diego quoted the state Office of Business and Economic Development as saying that Petco turned down offers to move to other states.
