Luna Grill arose in Torrey Highlands, a suburban community off the 56 freeway, several years ago and is now one of three locations (Mission Valley and Carlsbad included) serving Mediterranean and Near East (Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, etc.) cuisine.
The focus of the heart-healthy menu? Bites served kabob, wrap and pita style, with vegetables or meats including beef, lamb, chicken, fish, shrimp and vegetables as the centerpiece. Beef is grass-fed and lamb grazes freely on clover and rye pastures, according to the website.
If we could graze on anything, however—grass and clover included—we would opt for a full field of falafel that, like manna from Heaven, is about as good as it gets at Luna Grill.
Food is cooked to order. Kabobs are grilled over an open flame. Gyros feature meats wrapped in delightful lavash or pita, salads and full plates. Starters include hummus, eggplant dip (baba ganoush) and other goodies.
The Torrey Highlands location is open for lunch and dinner, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and serves happy hour wine and beer specials daily from 3 to 6 p.m. The two other locations close at 9 p.m.
