La Jolla's High Gas Prices: How Much Is Too Much?

San Diegans are paying more at the pump than most other U.S. drivers. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in San Diego is $4.237, or nearly 30 cents more than the national average of $3.941. Do you even remember gas priced under $4 per gallon?

Gas is less expensive in Boston, Philadelphia and Portland than it is here in San Diego, according to GasBuddy.com. While the online gas resource does not chart small communities such as La Jolla, rest assured we would rank high on their list of places where gas is expensive.

La Jolla Patch calcuated that the average gallon of regular gas here was $4.45 as of May 9. You can find cheaper gas in Beverly Hills and New York City than in the 92037.

Prices in La Jolla:

1. Encon, 2204 Torrey Pines Rd.: The price for a gallon of regular was $4.34 $4.48 for unleaded plus, $4.80 for premium, and $4.50 for a gallon of diesel. This station is the least expensive. A gallon of regular is down $0.02 from last week.
2. , 7475 La Jolla Blvd.: While this station is under construction, it is still open. The price per gallon of regular unleaded is $4.37, $4.54 for unleaded plus, $4.64 for premium, and $4.60 for diesel. The price per a gallon regular was down $0.01, but plus, premium and diesel costs are up.
3. , 3232 La Jolla Village Dr.: Prices were $4.50 for unleaded, $4.60 for unleaded plus, $4.70 for premium and $4.60 for diesel. Prices stayed the same from last week.
4. , 801 Pearl St.: The cost per gallon was $4.60 for unleaded, $4.90 for unleaded plus, $5 for premium and $4.80 for diesel, if you pay with cash. The cost per gallon increases if you pay with credit or get full service.
