A new luxury women’s retail store will be joining the La Jolla shopping scene later this month. Kate Spade New York is expected to open Friday, Sept. 28 on Girard Avenue, according to a sales representative at the Kate Spade Fashion Valley retail store.
Kate Spade began in 1993 when Kate Brosnahan Spade, a former accessories editor at Mademoiselle, debuted six handbag designs combining sleek sophistication and bold colors and shapes in her pursuit of designing the perfect handbag. Nearly 20 years later, Kate Spade has more than 80 retail shops and outlets stores in the U.S. and more than 100 shops worldwide.
The fashion line is known for its characteristic graphic prints, bold color pallet and modern designs creating a sophisticated, yet playful style. Most popular for its handbags, Kate Spade also retails an assortment of items including clothing, jewelry, shoes, stationery, eyewear, baby items, beauty products, home decor and gifts.
Kate Spade will be taking up shop on 7931 Girard Ave. in the space formerly occupied by Go Clothing, and has signed a five-year lease for the 1,453 square feet of retail space.
According to Jim Rinehart of CBRE who represented the retailer in the sale of the space, Kate Spade will be the perfect complement to current La Jolla retailers.
“Kate Spade New York is the most recognizable fashion retailer to lease space in La Jolla since Lululemon opened several years ago. This will surely get the attention of other national tenants and demonstrates that retailers believe La Jolla’s high-street market has a strong future. The atmosphere in La Jolla is positive and I hope to help create its future culture of exciting businesses that make it unique,” Rinehart stated in a press release this summer.
This will be the opening of San Diego’s second Kate Spade store, the other store is located in Fashion Valley. According to a sales representative at the Fashion Valley location the La Jolla opening is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 28, with a grand opening preview event on Oct. 4. The La Jolla store will sell items from the handbag, apparel and accessory lines.
