Hotel La Jolla and Cusp Opening Wednesday

After several months of major renovations, Hotel La Jolla and its top floor restaurant will open Wednesday in La Jolla.

After seven months of renovations, Hotel La Jolla will open on Wednesday to travelers and diners looking for something new in La Jolla. Hotel La Jolla is accepting restaurant and room reservations starting Wednesday. The local hotel on Torrey Pines Road and La Jolla Shores Boulevard underwent $4 million in property renovations.

Probably the most anticipated addition to Hotel La Jolla, is the transformation of into a totally new dining experience – Cusp Dining & Drinks. The 11-floor restaurant with floor to ceiling views of the Pacific has a new look and taste. Those that dined at Clay’s will not recognize the space – just that amazing 280-degree view. Kimpton, the property manager, completely stripped down the restaurant space and built it up with simple and natural décor that mirrors the menu with coastal Mediterranean cuisine.

Mark Spears, general manager of Cusp, said the restaurant with nearly 90 seats will focus on the entire experience now. Every table has a view and every seat the wave-shaped bar faces the ocean. And the menu was also completely revamped.

Spears said the lunch and dinner menus starts with sharable plates, has beautifully crafted drinks by a mixologist Nate Howell and fresh menu items including salads, paninis and entrees. Some of his favorite dishes are the octopus salad and hanger steak. He also noted that Cusp has a children’s menu for little ones. Appetizers start at $7, flatbreads start at $11 and all entrees are under $30.

Chef Lockhart created a menu focused on local, in-season ingredients. Lockhart, a Southern California native, left his latest gig at W Hollywood’s Delphine Eatery & Bar to join the Cusp team. He even competed in the IKA/World Culinary Olympics in Germany.

The outdoor space includes a full bar, tapas and sandwhich menu. This space is perfect for drinks before dinner, post dinner drinks, or even drinks after work to escape traffic along La Jolla Parkway.
