Get Hands-On with Hardy Succulents at Adelaide's

Adelaide's in La Jolla has a DIY succulent potting station where shoppers can arrange their own terrarium.

Arraigning succulents is as easy as caring for them. You don't need a green thumb to brighten your home or office with these diverse plants, but you do need to visit a local florist.

Adelaide's on Girard Avenue has a "do it yourself" succulent potting station, which includes a full selection of containers and terrariums, succulents, dirt, rocks, moss, shells and other elements. Participates can even ask for a pair of gloves to keep hands tidy. In addition, Adelaide's floral designer will be available to help at no charge.

Recently, Patch stopped by Adelaides to create something to brighten up the office. We fit six different plants into a square glass terrarium. We layered rocks, moss and dirt under the plants; and topped off our creation with seashells and purple moss covered sticks. (See the photo above.)

This is a perfect activity for a mommy-and-me date or way to personalize a housewarming gift.

If you feel like you need more direction on arranging your own succulent potter, you are in luck. Adelaide's will host a terrarium building workshop on Sunday, Sept. 29th from 1 to 3 p.m. There is a $10 "buy-in", which will be put towards the purchase of terrarium building materials. In addition, Adelaide's will offer 10 percent off terrarium building materials for participants on the day of the workshop.
