Gasoline Price Drops for 18th Consecutive Day

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County fell Sunday for the 18th consecutive day, dropping nine-tenths of a cent to $3.869.

The average price is 6.1 cents less than one week ago and 80.5 cents lower than one year ago, but two-tenths of a cent more than one month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The La Jolla, the cheapest gasoline is $3.85 a gallon at the Encon gas station, 2204 Torrey Pines Rd., and the most expensive is $3.99 at the Mobil gas station, 3233 La Jolla Village Dr., according to SanDiegoGasPrices.com.

The average price has dropped 16.4 cents over the past 18 days, including 1 cent on Saturday. The dropping prices were immediately preceded by a 16-day streak of rising prices totaling 18.2 cents.

The falling pump prices are the result of a sharp drop in the price of wholesale gasoline, lower crude oil prices and adequate supply to meet demand, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
