POLL: Dunkin' Donuts to Open on Camp Pendleton

The doughnut store, popular in the east coast, will open its only California location May 3 at the new Marine Corps Exchange on Camp Pendleton.

East coast Marines, sailors and area residents can finally show their west coast partners what the hype is all about.

The Massachusetts-based doughnut shop Dunkin' Donuts will open a California location May 3. It will be part of the new Marine Corps Exchange on base.

One Dunkin Donuts existed in Torrance, but has since closed, according to several online postings.

Civilians can get on base three times every 45 days without a base sponsor. For more information, see the Camp Pendleton Base Access page.

Editor's note: The post has been updated with access information. Also an earlier version incorrectly stated that this would be the first California location.

Who's got the best doughnuts? Tell us in the comments and vote in our poll.

Interesting. Thanks! I did a quick web search and it appears there was a location there in the 60s and 70s, but is no longer there. Have you been to that one?

I used to drive on US40 from NYC to DC (staying off the toll road) and there was an DD in Aberdeen, MD -- just about half way, time to stop for a GREAT cup of coffee and a Chocolate Honey Dipped (now called Sugar Glazed -- truth in advertising, don't you know?) donut. I've NEVER had a bad cup of DD coffee!

People here though don't remember when they used powdered sugar on the jelly filled, and they had more than just one jelly filled flavor. They had raspberry and blueberry back in the day. And why did they get rid of the Dunkin Donut?? The one that was shaped for dunking.
