C&H Photo Is Moving to Girard Avenue

Popular camera retailer and photo-service shop, C&H Photo, will open its new storefront on April 16.

C&H Photo, La Jolla’s go-to store for photography aficionados, is moving. But not to worry, it isn’t going very far. C&H Photo will relocate from its current space at 7720 Fay Ave. to 7442 Girard Ave. The popular camera and photo service retailer is currently renovating the space formerly home to La Jolla Music (which moved across the street). The grand opening of C&H’s new location is scheduled for Thursday, April 16.

According to shop owner Leon Chow, the move was prompted after the building’s new owners made the decision to repurpose the current space on Fay Ave. C&H has been a staple in La Jolla since 2005, when Chow went into business with Nelson Photo Supplies to save the then-ailing Bob Davis Photo. Formerly known as Point Loma Camera, C&H took on its current name in 2010.

While C&H’s new location will be slightly smaller, patrons can still expect the wide variety of classes, seminars and other photography related events.

“As always, our offerings will continue to evolve,” Chow said. “In addition to our staple of classes, free introduction class with purchase of camera, basic photography, intermediate photography, etc., we continue to try new approaches and stay current.”

The first post-move event will take place on Friday, April 19 when Canon Tech Representative Lance Folden will hold a full day of free seminars, and guide attendees on a photographic walk to give practical experience on the topics covered in his seminars.

C&H prides itself on offering a little something for everyone, its owner said. In addition, the shop has established itself as a top resource in underwater photography.

“We have specialized in underwater photography, from commercial to the simplest of equipment, like the now famous GoPro camera,” Chow said. “It is a long legacy I brought with me from my days at Point Loma Camera. We are proud to say that we are one of the most complete sources of this type in the entire western United States."

Originally from New York, store owner Leon Chow is an active member of the La Jolla community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for La Jolla Village Merchants Association and is actively involved in the Kiwanis Club of La Jolla.
