Apple Consultant Joins La Jolla Home Theater & Automation

La Jolla Home Theater & Automation started hosting workshops for Apple users this week.

Apple help has come to La Jolla. No, we are not talking about waiting in line at the Apple Store in UTC. now sells the Apple line and recently hired a full-time Apple consultant. Apple expert Paul Haggar will provide service and support for all things Apple.

Haggar, who worked for the Apple for three years, will provide demonstrations in the boutique Apple store inside of La Jolla Home Theater & Automation, answers customer questions, assisting shoppers with finding the right product, service and repairs, and trainings.

Because Apple prices are locked, it doesn’t matter where you shop—the prices will be the same. Haggar explains it is more about the experience, the relationship and the opportunity for training.

La Jolla Patch had the opportunity to sit down with Haggar earlier this week and learn a little bit about La Jolla’s “Apple guy.”

La Jolla Patch: Let’s start at the beginning. What was your first Mac?

Paul Haggar: It was my PowerBook G4. Well actually, it was my Apple IIe that my parents owned.

La Jolla Patch: How many computers do you own?

Haggar: In the last 10 years I have bought 30 different Apple computers. Right now I have five. I love the MacBook Air; I have one and use it as my work computer. I have a Mac Pro, which I use as a server for my websites. I have a MacBook Pro, which is a 15-inch laptop that I use as my travel design laptop that I use when I go to a client/customer’s house. And then I have an iMac at home, which I do design on at home. And then I have a Mac mini, which is connected to my TV. But I also have a little Apple TV, which streams all my information from all of my computers to my other TV.

La Jolla Patch: Where did you go to school?

Haggar: San Diego State. I got my degree in fine arts with an emphasis in graphic design.

La Jolla Patch: How did you get into Apple?

Haggar: As a graphic designer, a lot of the programs that we work with such as Adobe work really well on a Mac. When I was studying graphic design back in 2001 everything was switching over to Mac for design. It got me interested in Apple. After designing and working with the Apple products and watching them grow over the years, I really had a passion for them.

La Jolla Patch: When did you join La Jolla Home Theater & Automation?

Haggar: About two and a half weeks ago.

La Jolla Patch: What are your job responsibilities?

Haggar: Answering customer questions on Apple products, recommending Apple products, purchasing and order, and I am trying to do more training here. Make it more a part of what we do every day. I want people to know that I am here for them.

La Jolla Patch: Will training be in the store?

Haggar: We will do training in the store, in office or in the home. So if you have an office and you want to have a group training, I could come in and, for example, go over the iPad, Mac and iPhone. This is how you would integrate all three so you can access any of your documents, your calendars, your contacts, your emails. And for your type of business you may need a signature program where you can sign and send for authorization. Or this or this. This is how I recommend doing that and these are the steps you would take to go about doing that. Then after the one hour, I offer a half-hour of hands-on training. In addition, we offer one-on-one training in store, at home or in the office.

La Jolla Patch: I hear you are having workshops in the store this week? When are they?

Haggar: They will be Thursday and Friday at noon. The Thursday one is for real estate and the Friday one will be an introduction to Mac. I find that people get a lot out of training. I don’t read a script. This is all stuff that is my passion and my knowledge. I love this stuff. I have been working with Apple religiously since 2001.

La Jolla Patch: What is the No. 1 question you hear about Apple products?

Haggar: Why Apple? Why should I buy a Mac? Why should I buy an iPhone? Why should I buy anything Apple?

La Jolla Patch: What product release are you most excited for?

Haggar: I think everyone would say the iPhone 4, 5, 6, whatever they will call it, 4S. Whatever the name, I am excited. I am always waiting on that new iPhone, iPad and computer.

La Jolla Patch: What do you like about working for La Jolla Home Theater & Automation?

Paul Haggar: I have a lot more room. I have a lot more ability to help those in need—to help people that want that specific one on one training that they can’t get at the Apple Store.
