Adelaide's La Jolla Is Blooming with Springtime Flowers and New Look

Adelaide's continues to reinvented the 75-year-old shop with deep roots in La Jolla.

Adelaide’s flower shop was sold two years ago and business has been blossoming ever since.

Jerry Parent, general manager, sat down with Patch on Wednesday to talk flowers and about its flourishing new business initiatives.

“We thought it was important to expand to a broader audience,” said Parent, who explained how his team is freshening Adelaide’s storefront for long-time clients and to attractive new ones.

Over the past two years, Adelaide’s has added a consultation area for brides-to-be, a second sales counter near the entrance and soon will add a succulent plant potting station for local DIYers looking for hardy and often native plant options.

Another new imitative is its Friday Flower Market. Visitors can find vibrant flower bundles ready to go at wholesale prices, said Larry Anhorn, creative director at Adelaide’s. Flower bundles have included roses, tulips, calla lilies and sunflowers.

Anhorn said the store’s décor and giftware product lines have diversified, as has the price-point.

It introduced unique German stoneware home accessories, hand-painted porcelain vases, Olivina body lotions and crèmes from Napa, gourmet Moonstruck Chocolate and more cards.

“We are tying to get the customers more engaged with the designers,” Anhorn said. “…We are trying to change the culture to be more engaging, cause this is not just your grandma’s flower shop anymore.”

Adelaide’s is the official floral events company for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, La Valencia and the Grande Colonial.
