11 New Businesses in La Jolla in '11

Take a look at 11 new businesses that opened up shop in La Jolla in 2011.

So many new businesses opened in 2011 from Bird Rock to La Jolla Shores and in between. It was hard to select just 11.

Click through to see 11 new businesses we were excited to see open in La Jolla this year.

  1. : 7863 Girard Ave. The three-level bakery and café opened in June. It serves fresh baked goods, coffees and a full menu of soups, sandwiches and sweets.
  2. : 7874 Girard Ave. Long-time La Jolla resident Karen Dole opened her boutique in La Jolla in July. Hillside offers a number of products, including infant and children clothing. The shop also carries a full line of Ergo baby carriers, accessories for small children and shoes.
  3. : 8610 Kennel Way. Caroline's at opened on Aug. 8. The restaurant overlooks Scripps Pier and is operated by Giuseppe Restaurants & Fine Catering of La Jolla.
  4. : 1273 1/2 Prospect St. This is the second U.S. store opened by Italian-based designer/artist Marco Morosini, whose name may be familiar for some due to his work designing a number of and showrooms. The store opened in July.
  5. : 5726 La Jolla Blvd., Suite 105. The longboard skate shop opened earlier this year to much interest. The Bird Rock aslo serves as an office for Adrenalina, a multi-channel action sports company. Adrenalina’s numerous ventures include a TV show, which has aired on channels such as Discovery HD Theater and nuvoTV.
  6. : 5490 La Jolla Blvd. This new gym opened in August in Bird Rock. The center offers 30-minute workouts, 30-minute personal and group training sessions and 30-minute small classes consisting of 10 people or less.
  7. :1033 Silverado St. This women's clothing boutique opened in September. Owner Jenny Livits, a Bishop's graduate, said the line is great is a huge hit with LJ moms, their daughters and tourists.
  8. :1025 Prospect St. The new boutique is located upstairs on Prospect Avenue, above and next door to . The shop is part clothing boutique and part wine bar. A perfect combo for shopping.
  9. : 7467 Cuvier St. Ooh La La Dance Company opened in La Jolla in October. Students can choose from jazz, salsa, burlesque, swing, contemporary ballet, tango, and “abs core and isolation,” among others, from beginner to advanced levels.
  10. :1227 Prospect St. The watch “salons” sell niche, independent lines to clients throughout the world. Prices range from $780 to an astonishing $800,000.
  11. : 1162 Prospect St. Alexander Salazer, local art dealer, opened his sixth San Diego location in La Jolla earlier this month. Salazar previously had art space in La Jolla. Consider this his return.
