Wheels of Fortune: $1.6M Is Sticker Price of Bugatti for Sale in La Jolla

Symbolic Motor Car's showroom boasts one of the most expensive cars in the world.

The Symbolic Motor Car Company showroom is packed bumper to bumper with rare cars from around the world, but a $1.6 million price tag sets one car apart from the rest. The 2010 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is currently the most expensive car for sale in La Jolla.

Only 300 models of the car were distributed worldwide, with less than 50 shipped to the U.S., according to Symbolic staff. The used model was delivered to the showroom eight weeks ago with nearly 8,700 miles on it. New vehicles cost an estimated $2 million dollars and increase in price depending on the level of customization the buyer wants. The Bugatti Veyron makes the most expensive cars in the world list by TheSuperCars.org.

The Grand Sport can go zero to 60 in just 2.8 seconds with a top speed of over 250 mph. It has 1,001 horsepower with an 8.0 liter W-16 engine and four turbo chargers—reportedly the most powerful engine ever to be built into a production vehicle.

Symbolic Motor is the only authorized dealer of Bugatti in San Diego County and fulfills inquiries from all over the world. A buyer can either drive the showroom car off the floor or put in a custom order to the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, France. Custom orders take approximately nine to 12 months to complete.

Symbolic Motor Salesman Rick Ahumada said there's been a lot of interest in the car, but only serious, qualified buyers will be taken into consideration. Buyers must put their money where their mouths are—a $500,000 nonrefundable deposit is due at the time of signing.

Ahumada said the company hopes to have the new 2013 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse in its showroom by later this spring. He also said the $3 million car might make an appearance at the annual spring event on March 23.
