The La Jolla Construction Roller Coaster

Construction in The Jewel is behaving like The Gold - it's volatile.

Construction permits positively tanked in The Jewel for the week ending Oct. 14. Combined permit activity dropped an whopping 70 percent from the previous week.

While construction activity experienced a precipitous plunge, some sectors, including residential remodeling and additions held strong.

Chief among the remodeling projects was a $250,000 project at 419 Marine Street. This project includes the removal of illegal additions, a new driveway, bedroom and bathroom additions, as well as a new second-story master suite.

The owners at 5176 Crystal Drive received a permit to build a 524-square-foot, detached game room. The construction value of this project is $44,000.

A mildly substantial tenant improvement project received a building permit for $222,000 for a retail use at 7655 Girard. The City withheld the owner/tenant information for this project. We have it on good authority that Cassidy/Turley is brokering things.
