Youth Theater Star is a Standout

Since he began singing and acting at age 7, Daniel Myers has made a name for himself as a star performer.

Daniel Myers has always loved singing. The way his parents tell it, a young Daniel was even constantly humming before he was able to sing, a trait he still carries to this day. It’s no wonder then that Myers has found success on stage throughout San Diego for more than 10 years. But it’s not just his stellar vocals and acting ability that make Myers a standout. His commitment to community service, desire to continue his education and all around “go get ‘em” attitude are what makes him the perfect fit for our first .

Key to Awesomeness:  It all began when Daniel Myers was 7 years old. After spending his early years entertaining his parents with his vocal renditions of popular songs, Myers decided to take the leap to the big stage. He auditioned for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and was cast as a chorus member. Now, 11 years later he will star as “Joseph” in the popular play. After participating in more than two dozen on-stage performances ranging from the San Diego Opera to Shakespeare’s As You Like It to the J*Company’s Seussical, Myers has come full circle. His desire to act and his impressive voice have inspired many. But what inspires people the most about Myers is his kind nature. When Myers was cast as the King in The King and I and had to shave his head, he used the opportunity to spearhead a campaign to fund cancer research. His idea quickly gained support and more than $10,000 was donated to Rady Children’s Hospital.

When asked his advice for other students who want to get involved in acting he replied, “Work hard. Believe you can do anything. A positive attitude is infectious, and it leads to many opportunities.”

So what does a kid who has already claimed top performance awards, travelled the world and helped lead the way for thousands of dollars in cancer research do next? Go to college.

“I am eagerly waiting to find out whether I have been accepted to my favorite college,” he said. “Theater, voice and computer science and engineering are the some of the passions that I wish to continue pursuing."

Daniel's next performance, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat runs Feb. 25 through March 13. For tickets call 858-362-1348.
