Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots on Stage at La Jolla Playhouse (Gallery)

"Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" runs at the La Jolla Playhouse through Dec. 16.

Do you realize...? The La Jolla Playhouse's world premier of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robotsa musical with lyrics and music by The Flaming Lips, will run for just one more week and tickets are still available.

The play was written and directed by Playhouse Director Emeritus Des McAnuff (Jesus Christ SuperstarJersey Boys) and features a 14-foot robot and songs familiar to fans of The Flaming Lips.

The La Jolla Playhouse explained that Yoshimi is a young Japanese artist "facing the battle of her life: the battle for her life."

In addition to the giant robot puppet, the musical features dancers in LED costumes and projections.

Playhouse artistic director Christopher Ashley told the UT San Diego that Yoshimi is the most technically complex production the theater has undertaken since he arrived five years ago.
